Thor’s Kat Dennings Has A Bigger Role In WandaVision Than She Expected

Kat Dennings reveals she has a bigger role in Marvel’s WandaVision than she initially expected. WandaVision is slated to be the first Marvel series to debut on Disney+, kicking off a new era of MCU-set television shows. Starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff and Paul Bettany as Vision, the series will pick up with the two following the events of Avengers: Endgame as they settle into a perfectly constructed domestic life. However, cracks in the façade are bound to spread, particularly since Vision is still dead. WandaVision has been touted as both a sitcom and an action movie, and fans are quite curious to see how it will all come together.

Dennings first joined the MCU in 2011’s Thor as Jane Foster’s (Natalie Portman) wise-cracking assistant Darcy Lewis. She later reprised the role in Thor: The Dark World, but beyond that, Dennings has remained out of the franchise for some time. Since her role is often tied to Jane’s and Jane didn’t appear in Thor: Ragnarok, fans weren’t too surprised by that. What did surprise them, though, was the news that Darcy will once again return to the MCU, and she’ll do so in WandaVision instead of the next Thor film.

Dennings recently sat down with ET to talk about several projects, WandaVision included. The actress admitted she was quite surprised to get the call asking her to return to the MCU, particularly since it’s been years since the first Thor. “It was a surprise the first time I got a call,” Dennings pointed out, referring to when she was first cast in Thor. When it came to WandaVision, though, her role proved to be far more than she expected. Dennings said:

Getting that phone call was just – I almost thought it was just going to be a scene or something, I didn’t realize what it was. Just a delight! Just a gift, and an exciting thing to do. And I think anyone who liked Darcy from the movies will be thrilled.

While Dennings couldn’t say much else about WandaVision, she did share her thoughts on having Darcy now being paired with Wanda instead of Jane. “I’ll just say that I was thrilled and it was somewhat of a surprise, what they planned for her,” Dennings said, carefully choosing her words. Since fans were surprised Darcy would be in WandaVision at all, she just might be right. So far, Darcy’s role in the series has been kept closely under wraps, though many suspect she’ll be working with SWORD as they become embroiled with whatever conflict Wanda has somehow created.

There are still so many questions surrounding WandaVision, so it’s a relief the series is still slated for release this year. Though Disney has yet to set a premiere date, it’s likely WandaVision will arrive in December, as has been planned since earlier this year. That means fans will only have to wait another month or so before the mysteries of WandaVision begin to unravel. If Dennings is correct, they definitely will be surprised by what they uncover.
