Maurice drops his debut single “The Wall”

Girl, you gonna find out, singer/songwriter Maurice sings in his debut single “The Wall”. It’s late. The night is still young and Maurice takes a detour to his house after a date. His voice carries the weight, the underlying music emphasizes his impassioned desires. “The Wall” is about taking things to the next leavy, getting a little wet and a little freaky. The unfolding tryst is an exciting, slow tempo groove.

Born and raised in Detroit, Maurice embodies the sound of Motown with a modern makeover. The song has definite visuals, and Maurice has the voice to back up his convincing serenade. And baby when we’re done you’re gonna need a chair, he sings, later adding you can take a five minute break. Maurice doesn’t give the listener a respite – rather his music bed is riddled with groping beats and an envious rhythm. Maurice, behind the mic, is a singer with a lot of character in his voice. Sure, the song is sensual but his voice has some sophistication and a lot of potent enthusiasm. Let’s have sex on the wall, I just want to see if you can take it, he sings in the chorus. It’s a definite attention grabber. He spares nothing in terms of inferences; Maurice astounds the listener with graphic lyrics. Depending on the listener’s level of comfort, some of the lines might be a bit eyebrow raising (his reference to his lady needing a towel; and the line and I want to love you down, if you let me). I can proclaim that this song is not meant of children. Music is meant to push limits, to help the listener transport themselves into another world or state-of-mind. I certainly felt like a fly on the wall in his story.

Maurice’s background as a DJ serves him well in “The Wall”. He follows that age-old saying of ‘don’t bore us, get to the chorus’. His press materials note that while he was DJ-ing in Michigan, one other way of connecting with the audience was to throw in some of his original songs. His instincts paid off then, and they are cashing in now – “The Wall” is audacious. No holds-barred. Maurice is unincumbered and the more you listen to “The Wall” the more you realize his artistic start is on the rise. It’s easy to gloss this song over as just another song about sex and relationships, but Maurice blends the music and the lyrics together.

The beat is strong and the groove is catchy. Bolstered by Maurice’s strong vocals, “The Wall” sounds modern but it also has a throw-back vibe happening. Fans of Bobby Brown, Jasmine Guy, Ex-Girlfriend and The Full Force roster should take a listen. “The Wall” cranks up the temperature and Maurice takes some artistic licenses in creating this spellbinding story. Listeners will find that the way Maurice seduces his woman is very much the same way he seduces his listener. “The Wall” is a sultry single and Maurice has his listeners in his hands, smooth as butter.
