Real Housewives Of New York Reportedly Adding First Black Cast Member Bershan Shaw

Bershan Shaw

Real Housewives of New York is coming off a pretty uneventful season. Aside from partying and drinking, we couldn’t point to much of a storyline outside of Dorinda Medley attacking Tinsley Mortimer. Oh and the revelation that Sonja Morgan doesn’t shave her p**sy. Mark my words, a drunken Sonja randomly yelling about her vag in the midst of a perfectly respectable party will go down in housewives history.

Let’s just say the offseason was way more interesting than the season itself thanks to major cast shakeups. Bethenny Frankel’s exit left a big hole in the cast and opened the door for newbie, Leah McSweeney. Love her or hate her, we have to admit that she brought it. Tiki torches are still shook. Also, Tinsley left the show mid-season to pursue her fairy tale with on-again-off-again boyfriend Scott Kluth. Dorinda was fired once the season was over.

That leaves even more room for a new castmate to bring some much-needed life into this show. Leah has been loudly advocating for more diversity on the show. She previously said, “I hope that there’s not only diversity of race, but an even deeper diversity of where someone lives or what their interests are.” Will we finally see it next season?

That’s a real possibility now. Page Six is reporting that motivational speaker Bershan Shaw is in the running. She has supposedly been filming with some of the current cast, although nothing has become official.

TMZ is also bringing us the scoop but is clear that sources don’t know if Bershan will be a full-time cast member or just a “friend of”. Either way, she’s filming and fans are anxiously waiting for confirmation.

Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a Black housewife joining the show. Recently, it was reported that former E! News host, Alicia Quarles, would be joining RHONY. Not sure whatever happened to that but sounds like this theory is dead in the water.

Now if Bravo really wanted to diversify their cast, they would add both Bershan and Alicia at the same time. And why not have two amazing Black women come to the table? I’m guessing at the very least, they have more to offer than squabbling over who pooped during sex.

Either way, I’m here for diversity on RHONY and beyond. Let’s stop teasing the idea and make it happen, Bravo.
