Raised By Wolves has been renewed for a second season at HBO Max. Executive produced by filmmaker Ridley Scott, the sci-fi drama debuted its first three episodes on HBO Max on September 3. Seven episodes of the ten-part first season have been released so far. The series is created and written by Aaron Guzikowski, who wrote Dennis Villeneuve’s thriller Prisoners. The show centers around Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim), two androids tasked with raising human children on a mysterious planet called Kepler-22b after the earth was destroyed by a religious war. However, the religious sect known as the Mithraic track the parents and children down and seek to destroy the colony of humans.
HBO Max has renewed Raised By Wolves for a second season along with the release of its sixth and seventh episodes on Thursday. According to WarnerMedia’s official press release, Raised By Wolves has been its top-performing original series since the service launched back in May, growing its audience by nearly 50% in its second week. The series debuted on September 3.
Scott says the show has already begun developing season 2. “We are already deep into the ‘layers’ of Season 2, as Aaron has begun to shape what we think will be another brilliant season to inspire the imagination,” he said. Scott made his U.S. television directorial debut with the first two episodes, and his son, Luke, directed the third and fourth episodes. Raised By Wolves is the latest HBO Max show to be renewed, following Anna Kendrick’s romantic comedy Love Life and Selena Gomez’s cooking show Selena + Chef.
Raised By Wolves has been met with mixed reception, with the first couple episodes praised for its ambitious storytelling and its lead actors’ performances, while some viewers have felt that the rest of the season has dragged. Hopefully, the fans will see some more excitement when the season 1 finale airs in October.
