Remember Kathryn Edwards? Along with Carlton Gebbia and Joyce Giraud, Kathryn is part of the “one and done” crew from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Kathryn appeared on the show in 2016 and seemed to share much of her conflict with The Morally Corrupt Faye Resnick. Though she tried to play the game (don’t hate the game, just marry a player), she was benched after her freshman season. Let’s all take a moment and reflect on the juicy drama and great one-liners Kathryn gifted us with. Aaaaand we’re finished.
While Kathryn didn’t have the opportunity to strut her stuff for a second season, because, fired, she did learn a few things during her tenure on the show. Sometimes reality television isn’t pure in the “reality” sense of the word. You already know this if you have a working tv and access to any type of media device. Recently, Kathryn shared some insight on producer-driven drama in the Bravo universe and certain cast members earning their check driving that producer-driven bus.
Reality television shows have input from production in an effort to increase theatrics? Also, water is wet. If this surprises you, please don’t ever watch WWE. In a new interview on the Behind The Velvet Rope With David Yontef podcast, Kathryn gave details on structured story lines and former cast-members. Us Weekly shared an excerpt.
Kathryn recalled an incident when the group was filming at Erika Girardi’s house and the situation was steered in a different direction by Bobby Fischer Lisa Vanderpump. Kathryn said, “It was after I had already told Vanderpump and the rest of the girls like, ‘Hey, you know, Erika was like, warning me about you and I should stay away from you.’ And she said that like you’re a sniper or whatever it was…”

Kathryn explained that the atmosphere was quite jolly until LVP received a text from production. “Vanderpump got a text that said, ‘This dinner is really boring, make something happen. So she showed it to me and I thought, OK, well, let’s go then. Let’s make dinner and get out of here.” Firstly, if you don’t think Kyle Richards’ phone has approximately 9,822 texts from Alex Baskin (producer) in it, raise your hand. Secondly, if this last season does not prove the epitome of producers helping the cast along, I don’t know what does.
Kathryn then admitted the dinner scene they filmed was edited to look more dramatic, SHOCKING. “And the whole conversation was completely different than the way they ended up showing it,” she added. “There was no kicking anyone out of the house. We all hugged. And it was great. But they made that look so different.” Honestly, what astonishing fact are they going to reveal next? That Brandi Glanville likes wine?

Kathryn also feels LVP did not want to leave RHOBH. “I don’t think that [Vanderpump] wanted to get off of the Housewife show. I think that she felt like she had to play her hand and I think she tried to stay on it to some degree with some of the things that I know of.” Kathryn also alludes LVP’s departure had to do with preserving her dignity. “She asked for some specific things that the show wasn’t going to give her to make it better so she can save face. And she walked away. But she, in my opinion, kinda got a little bit too big for the ensemble cast. And she did produce, she did try to control the story lines.” Tried to control story lines, huh? Something Lisa Rinna would never do, you guys.
Though Kathryn’s stint on RHOBH was short, she values the friendships she made and enjoyed her time while filming. Due to the current slots open for a diamond, perhaps Bravo will consider bringing Kathryn back, now that she finally knows how to play the game.
