Madonna has teamed with screenwriter Diablo Cody to co-write and direct her own biopic, The Hollywood Reporter notes. “I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer—a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” Madonna said in a statement. “The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
The upcoming film will be produced by Amy Pascal along with Universal. “Madonna is the ultimate icon, humanitarian, artist and rebel,” Universal Filmed Entertainment Group chairman Donna Langley said in a statement. “With her singular gift of creating art that is as accessible as it is boundary-pushing, she has shaped our culture in a way very few others have.”
Madonna released her latest studio album Madame X in 2019. She recently featured on a remix of Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” alongside the Blessed Madonna and Missy Elliott.
Diablo Cody wrote Juno, Young Adult, Tully, Jennifer’s Body, and more. She recently penned Alanis Morissette’s Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill.
