Many people looking for a good quality, but moderately priced phone, have likely been champing at the bit for the latest smartphone in Motorola‘s Moto G series. Well, images and specifications for the new Moto G9 Plus have leaked online via a Slovakian wireless company, providing a very clear and detailed look at what this latest device has to offer.
Over the years, Motorola has become known as a great developer of budget phones. Its budget Moto E line is popular in the developing world for those looking for a low-cost option to stay connected and has some fans in North America as well. However, Motorola also caters to higher-end markets. Its recent foray into the foldable screen segment with the relaunch of its iconic Razr brand, was likely not as impressive as the company hoped. Although is upper-end Motorola Edge, which launched back in July, may prove to be more successful. Either way, many North American Motorola fans are likely most interested in the Moto G line, which started in 2013, back when the company was owned by Google.
Spotted by Roland Quandt, consumers can now get a glimpse of a new phone from the Moto G9 line via Orange Slovensko, the Slovakian subsidiary of French telecom company Orange S.A. The new Moto G9 Plus can be ordered now from the wireless company’s website. Only available in blue, the phone features a 6.81-inch LTPS LCD display, with a 2,400 x 1,080 resolution, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB of storage, with a memory card slot. The more surprising spec is that its quad-lens rear camera system, reportedly, includes a 64-megapixel lens. The phone is only being sold through a plan, but lists the value of the phone at €255, which puts it at around $300 (or $395 in Canada).
Big Camera, Screen & Battery
The resolution, memory and storage aren’t anything spectacular. In fact, the Lenovo-owned company’s, Moto G8 Stylus from earlier this year, has the same specs. However, the camera is a bit of a shock compared to its predecessors. The G8 Stylus and G8 Plus both feature a quad-lens system camera with the largest being 48-megapixel, while the other G8 phones have lower-end cameras. So at 64-megapixel, that’s quite the increase. Now, whether that translates into better pictures remains to be seen, but it’s interesting to see.
The phone is also a fair bit larger and a little heavier than the G8 series. The Moto G9 Plus’ dimensions are 169.98 x 3.1 x 0.4 inches and it weighs 7.9 ounces. Its 6.81-inch display will tower over the G8s, which mostly sported 6.4-inch screens or less. In fact, it’s a pretty big screen in general for a smartphone. Even Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 screen is only slighter larger at 6.9 inches. At this size, the Moto G9 Plus should be a great device for watching videos and playing games.
The Moto G9 Plus also has the same massive 5,000 mAh battery as the Moto G8 Power. It provides that phone with up to a three-day charge. The G9 Plus’ larger screen and processor (not listed on Orange’s page, but it’s likely more powerful than the G8 Power’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 octa-core CPU) will likely be a bigger drain on the battery. Still, the Moto G9 Plus will likely last longer on a single charge than a lot of its rivals.
