Public Enemy’s New Album to Feature Beastie Boys, George Clinton, Cypress Hill, Run-DMC, More

Music, News

Public Enemy have announced the tracklist for new album What You Gonna Do When the Grid Goes Down, and it’s an old-school extravaganza. The outfit’s first album for Def Jam in more than 20 years features Beastie Boys’ Mike D and Ad-Rock, Cypress Hill, Run-DMC, Ice-T, Nas, YG, DJ Premier, George Clinton, the Roots’ Black Thought and Questlove, Rapsody, and more. See the full tracklist below.

What You Gonna Do is out September 25. It follows 2017’s Nothing Is Quick in the Desert. Upon announcing the album, Flavor Flav said, “Def Jam is like the house we grew up in. It’s cool to be home.” Today, Chuck D will take questions about the album on Facebook Live from midday Eastern.

Earlier this year, the group released “State of the Union (STFU),” the album’s DJ Premier–produced lead single. They have also released an updated version of “Fight the Power,” featuring YG, Black Thought, and others. Before that, the group appeared to fire Flavor Flav, then claimed it had been an elaborate hoax. Flav said he had been unaware of the plan.
