Cyberpunk 2077 has been confirmed to offer free DLC when it finally releases in November by developer CD Projekt Red. The much-awaited open-world, first-person RPG from The Witcher series developer CD Projekt Red is one of the most anticipated games of the past couple of years. It was initially slated for release back in April but was delayed to September; then, it was delayed a second time to its current November 19 release date.
Developer CD Projekt Red has announced and shown off quite a bit of the game in the meantime though. Apart from announcing a tie-in comic book series from Dark Horse, an anime series from Studio Trigger called Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was also announced. The developer also showed off several of the game’s features such as Lifepaths, three different backstories for the game’s protagonist that players can choose from, as well as the trippy Braindance Mode, which ostensibly lets players revisit another character’s experiences.

The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account responded to a fan, rather wittily, who was asking about whether the game will have free DLC, much like the CD Projekt Red’s other series, The Witcher, or more specifically the third game in the series, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which featured a total of 16 free DLC content including alternative looks for certain main characters. Apart from alternative looks, the other free DLC that was released for The Witcher 3 included new missions, new armor sets, new weapons, Gwent card sets, and more.
While CD Projekt Red has now confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 will get free DLC, that doesn’t mean that there will be no paid content as well, especially if the DLC model of The Witcher 3 is to be referenced. Apart from its plethora of free DLC, The Witcher 3 also featured two pieces of paid DLC, namely the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions, but both added new story campaigns and several hours of playtime to the game. Specifically, the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions featured over 10 and 20 hours of new gameplay, respectively.
CD Projekt Red has previously said that it won’t be including microtransactions in Cyberpunk 2077 so even if the game will eventually have paid DLC, there’s some assurance that it will definitely be worth the cost much like the expansions for The Witcher 3. For now, the developer is hard at work polishing up the game before its release. It previously said that it’s working on improving and polishing the game’s melee combat.
Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2020, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It’s also set for release on Google Stadia this year and on the PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
