Manny Cabo is Lightning in a Bottle

The magic between songwriter Bonnie Warren and crooner Manny Cabo is lightning in a bottle – especially when it comes to the new ballad “All Night Again”. Cabo, a rocker with a strong sense of sensitivity, bleeds Warren’s words into a moving tune for our times. Inspired by the front line care workers during an unprecedented time, “All Night Again” conjures up the spirit and the gratitude of humanity. Leave it to music to communicated what the rest of us can’t put into words behind our masks.

A stirring piano bed is the perfect backdrop for Cabo’s emotional delivery. Each morning I leave my house, I feel so torn, sings the Nashville-based Cabo. Reaching within his soul, the song has a fiery intensity, yet the demeanor in his voice is sensitive and prideful. When it hurts this much, sings Cabo, the vocals seem to dance closer to the spirited piano. The synergy happening between Cabo’s radio-ready vocals and the fluttering piano is palpable. His natural melodic touch isolates from the music bed; any other voice to this song wouldn’t sound the same. It’s no wonder, then, that Cabo garnered the 2015 coveted four-chair turn on NBCs The Voice. This song seems to hold the alchemy he’s searched. The words linger, Cabo’s voice transpires the listener to the moments that first responders and health care workers deal with each day – leaving that driveway wondering if they will return. That sentiment and harnessed outlook is packaged in “All Night Again”. Wishing and hoping, this song tears at the heart strings.

Cabo and Warren also collaborated on the award-winning “Wear Your Words” and “Hate Has No Home Here”. It’s as if Warren writes with Cabo’s voice top of mind. And, utilizing just the piano adds further drama – to hear this song with a guitar or full-backing band, I don’t think it would have the same outcome. Listeners expecting a raucous rock anthem might feel slighted, but they shouldn’t. Cabo’s range and artistic integrity stay intact in this powerful statement.

“All Night Again” has a specific theme in its roots, but as a listener, I think you can really take this song to mean a variety of things. Each day is unknown to all of us, and the line I know I signed up, could mean taking on a new relationship, or any commitment. Even parents “sign up” for the unknown. Cabo’s inviting voice could at any time reach to the stars, as a rocker he’s hit some gripping notes in the past. A natural performer, who has opened for such icons as Lifehouse, John Waite and 3 Doors Down, has an instant rapport. His stage experience serves him well. The listener is intertwined in his voice, just as much as the tickling piano keys. Cabo evokes a natural sense of wonder, a peaceful light. As the world grapples with social distancing, songs like “All Night Again” provide a beacon of hope. This song touches the heart in ways that we’ve been searching for all summer.
