Karen Derrico from Doubling Down with the Derricos delivered preemie triplets 28 weeks into her pregnancy.
Doubling Down with the Derricos shows Las Vegas couple Deon and Karen juggling 11 children with three more on the way. It takes a village to raise a child, but what does it take to raise 14? No one knows the answer better than 43-year-old Karen Derrico and 49-year-old Deon Derrico. They manage their large family of 11 children on the reality show. As Karen prepares to add three new Derricos, she faces a round of complications. She’s already lost one baby (from earlier triplets) during childbirth, so she and Deon are worried that history will repeat itself. To be on the safe side, Karen is hospitalized at 24 weeks, and Deon must play mother and father to their 11 kids, who range in age from 2 to 14. Although he gets a helping hand from mother GG (Marian) Derrico, he soon gets a call from the hospital. Karen is going into early labor. The latest episode of Doubling Down with the Derricos shows Deon Derrico rushing to be by his wife’s side.

As Deon tries to look after the children during his wife’s absence, episode 2 of Doubling Down with the Derricos features Karen delivering the triplets prematurely. On the 22nd day of her hospital stay, Karen talks about her 12 pound weight loss while on bed rest. She’s lost her appetite because of her worry about the triplets. A terrible earthquake hits the city, making matters worse. Deon is worried, but soon gets summoned to the healthcare facility (on day 34), because Karen is having unnatural contractions. These contractions are caused by stress from the natural disaster. The doctors, unable to stop her contractions, decide to operate on the TLC star. She has a C-section at just 28 weeks of pregnancy. This happens to be the same amount of time that she carried her late baby, Carter. She and Deon are clearly distressed. Karen shakes violently because of the medication she’s on, but Deon is by her side during the two hour C-section procedure. The Doubling Down with the Derricos mother stays strong through the ordeal and delivers three newborns. She has two girls and one baby boy. Deon Derrico said, “I’m a proud papa” to cameras.
The new Doubling Down with the Derricos babies are born prematurely and one of them has a birth defect. The firstborn triplet daughter, Dawsyn, has a hole in her heart. Upcoming episodes of the reality show will follow Dawsyn Derrico as she goes through her recovery process. Tuesday night ended on an emotional note for Doubling Down with the Derricos fans but, their love and prayers will surely get baby Dawsyn feeling better very soon.
