MTV’s reality competition show The Challenge has had plenty of overlap with Big Brother in recent years, causing a cross-over between fans of each show. There are plenty of reasons that Challenge fans should be watching Big Brother 22, if they aren’t already.
For years The Challenge cast was drawn from the MTV shows Real World and Road Rules. Occasionally they would bring new people outside of the MTV family on, but for the most part, the show was known to draw from in-house. When those shows stopped airing, The Challenge producers had already begun to recruit from other MTV reality shows like Are You The One? and Ex on the Beach. However, many were surprised when MTV started casting from outside its own shows by adding former Big Brother contestants to the line-up. They have since added Survivor contestants to their growing pool of candidates. Their relationship with CBS has grown stronger, and now CBS is actually promoting The Challenge. Currently, CBS All Access has a majority of the past Challenge seasons streaming on its platform.

While Challenge fans are already on CBS All Access, it is definitely worth taking a look at Big Brother 22. The first and most obvious reason is that not one, but two Challenge alumni are on this season of Big Brother. This All-Star season is the first opportunity for Challenge fans to see one of their faves return to Big Brother after they’ve been introduced on The Challenge. This season has both Bayleigh Dayton and Da’Vonne Rogers taking a break from The Challenge to show a different set of skills on BB22. Two other Challengers and Big Brother winners Kaycee Clark and Josh Martinez were rumored to be returning, but when the doors opened they weren’t actually part of the BB22 cast. Had they been, that would have meant 4 Challenge alum on one season.
Even if your favorite Challengers aren’t in the BB22 house, there is a good chance they could be mentioned with all of the Challenge tea being spilled. Big names from The Challenge have been a big topic of conversation in the Big Brother house. So far this season on the live feeds, several names of Challenge vets have been dropped, such as Aneesa Ferreira and Wes Bergmann. Of course, there has been lots of talk about Kaycee and Josh by houseguests who also thought they would be returning. With Challenger Paulie Calafiore’s brother Cody playing this season, it was inevitable we’d hear his name as well.
With all the unique reasons to watch this season of Big Brother, Challenge fans who may be new to the show will have plenty of reasons to come back. It doesn’t appear there is going to be any shortage of Challenge competitors funneling in from Big Brother. Whether fans are just craving a new reality tv show, hoping to get some gossip on their faves, or just looking to see the former Challengers in a different environment, it’s an easy jump for fans of either show. For Big Brother fans who are glued to the live feeds and need a break, you can check out old seasons of The Challenge and see where many of the Big Brother houseguests are headed in the future.
Big Brother season 22 airs Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 8pm EST on CBS.
