Candiace Dillard Real Housewives Of Potomac

There’s really no clever introduction for this story. Homophobic tweets have resurfaced from Real Housewives of Potomac cast member Candiace Dillard. A majority of the posts she shared are from 2010 and 2011.

The already-controversial reality star has spoken out about the public’s discovery of these tweets.

Plenty of Real Housewives fan accounts have shared screenshots from Candiace. In one tweet, Candiace said “Queenie gay men irk me.”

In another 2010 tweet, Candiace wrote, “I’m personally turned off by men who r too into fashion. It’s a fine line. When u do too much, I’m disgusted. Makes me think ‘gay.’” Wow. The ignorance was very much apparent. Hopefully, her views have evolved a decade later.

However, those weren’t the only questionable remarks she made. Candiace shared, “I think my officemate might be a little gay. He does some strange things… make me raise an eyebrow here and there.” What “strange things” can someone do to be “a little gay”? Wow. There’s a lot to unpack from that one.

She even brought up Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Phaedra Parks‘ now-ex-husband Apollo Nida when she tweeted, “Phaedra’s husband is AWKWARD. ughhhhh. I think he might be a little gay too… hmmmm….”

She also copied and pasted a tweet that said “If you wanna be or are gay then do you. But wtf is up wit dudes wanting to be women?” Then she added “agreed” to the sentiment. How awful. How misinformed. There are just so many things wrong with her remarks.

Now, Candiace is addressing the resurfaced. She began, “I want to address tweets that resurfaced from nearly 10 years ago that may have offended people I love dearly and those who have supported me as a Potomac Housewife.”

Candiace wrote, “To my loyal fanbase, particularly the LGBTQIA+ viewers, thank you for your unwavering support. I love you.”

She continued, “I, alone, am responsible for my words and I deeply regret saying anything that could have hurt my freinds, colleagues, family and fans. At the same time I was a private citizen, speaking carelessly and crassly as we often do, and for my lack of better judgment, I am sorry.”

Candiace said, “While I have always considered myself an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community, I recognize my words were insensitive and undermined the support, reverence, and love I have consistently tried to demonstrate through advocacy for LGBTQIA+ rights and causes, as well as my personal relationships with those who identify as LGBTQIA+.

She admitted, “This has been a humbling experience, but I remain committed to learning and listening to become a more effective and empathetic ally. My prayer is that this may serve as  a teachable moment for those who are willing to listen and learn as it has been for me.”

Candiace concluded, “It’s imperative that we love more, have empathy, and search for understanding. I am truly sorry for my comments and I only ask for patience and understanding as I strive to evolve as a person.”

Will she face consequences from the Bravo network for her remarks? Only time will tell.
