Why Maya Vander’s husband doesn’t appear on ‘Selling Sunset’

Reality TV

While “Selling Sunset” star Maya Vander’s real estate deals make for great television, her marriage does not.

“I really wanted [my husband] to be in the show, but he’s in finance and his job is very respectable and he has a very good career for him,” Vander, 32, recently told Page Six. “”So for him to be on the show, unfortunately, it can actually maybe destroy his career. So I rather him not to get involved. I tried to show him a little bit on social media just so people know that I do have a husband and he’s a nice guy. He’s a great guy.”

Vander and her husband share two children, Aiden, 1, and Elle, 2 months. While she introduced fans to Aiden in a scene with Chrishell Stause last season and to Elle on social media, her husband remains a mystery even in Season 3.

Making note of Stause’s divorce from “This Is Us” star Justin Hartley, a major storyline in Season 3, Vander continued: “I think doing a reality show is very risky, obviously. You guys saw what happened to Chrishell. Everything is exposed in public and it’s not the best thing. And even her ex-husband was not in the show. So I rather keep my life private. You know, it’s more boring and unfortunately, because of that, I think I have less scenes that don’t share as much as I would love to. But it is what it is.”

However, viewers could potentially see another wedding on the show, as Vander’s co-star Heather Rae Young just got engaged to HGTV star Tarek El Moussa last month. El Moussa, 38, was previously married to his “Flip or Flop” co-star, Christina Anstead, and they share two children, Taylor, 9, and Brayden, 4.

Young, 32, took on the role of doting stepmom-to-be early on in their relationship — sparking a fight between her and Amanza Smith during the show’s second season.

“She just got engaged. We are very happy for her,” Vander said of her friend. “She took up on that all very soon when they met. And good for her because it’s not easy to meet someone and he has already the kids. And she’s doing a fantastic job and she’s really loving it.”

And as for her best marriage advice, Vander says it’s all about “communication, loyalty, trust.”

“I think the most important thing, communication. And look, I mean, me and my husband, we’ve been together for six years almost. And with two children it could be very stressful, especially we are working, both of us at home, so we are always with each other, but we try to respect each other’s working space and just communicate. So the punch line is communication. And support, you have to support each other, because when I was in LA and he was here, I lived with our son in LA for the first couple of months, and he was doing the back and forth. So it wasn’t easy either. But he was supporting me doing ‘Selling Sunset.’”
