Best Coast Release New Version of “Boyfriend” With LGBTQ-Inclusive Lyrics: Listen

Music, News

Best Coast have made a new version of their hit 2010 song “Boyfriend.” In the original, Bethany Cosentino sang mostly to a male figure. Now, the lyrics include different pronouns to make the song more inclusive to LGBTQ+ listeners. For example, the new song opens:

I wish he was my boyfriend
I wish she was my girlfriend
I’d love them till the very end
But instead they’re just a friend
I wish he was my boyfriend

Boyfriend (10th Anniversary Edition)” is available exclusively on Bandcamp today (August 7), as the site once again waives its revenue shares. Proceeds from the track go to the Trevor Project. Listen to the song below.

This year, Best Coast released the new album Always Tomorrow. Next week, the band is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its debut Crazy for You with a star-studded livestream event.
