Money Heist season 5 will be the final season of the Netflix show. The Spanish crime drama has seen a lot of success in its past four seasons, being one of the most popular and talked about shows on the streaming platform. In addition to having great viewership, Money Heist has received critical praise for its jam-packed action and captivating storylines. The show has also won multiple international awards, including an International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series in 2018.
Money Heist, also known as La Casa de Papel, follows a criminal mastermind, who goes by the name “The Professor,” and the group of robbers he recruits to conduct a grand heist in the Royal Mint of Spain and later the Bank of Spain. The master plan escalates when the robbers take in hostages to give some incentive for the public to comply with their demands. The hostage situation leads to tense conflicts with the police as tensions also rise among those involved in the heist. As the thieves rush to complete The Professor’s plans to steal billions of euros, they encounter constant battles with outside threats as well as battles within themselves.

THR reports Netflix has renewed Money Heist for its fifth and final season. The last season will consist of 10 episodes and will begin production this week. The Spanish series will film in Spain, Portugal and Denmark. Creator and executive producer Alex Pina said this about Money Heist season 5:
We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters. The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.
The main cast of Money Heist is set to return, including Álvaro Morte, who plays the criminal mastermind The Professor. Miguel Ángel Silvestre, star of another Netflix series, Sense8, has signed on to join the show’s final season. He’ll be joined by Patrick Criado, though it isn’t clear at this time which characters the new additions will be playing.
The news of Money Heist ending is surely sad for fans. However, considering Netflix’s tendency to cancel shows around season 3, Money Heist‘s longevity is actually impressive. Regardless, viewers are likely already impatiently awaiting season 5, especially after season 4 ended with the major cliffhanger of The Professor being held at gunpoint. While the death of The Professor would be a major shock, it wouldn’t be too shocking, given that many other major characters have been killed off. It’s clear that Pina has some big storylines in store for viewers, so this final season might be the best one yet.
