Fellas, let me warn you, this chick is whack. That is typically the scuttlebutt that you might hear; instead rapper Amir Beats goes about in the more artistic way and puts his advice out via music. His song “Got ‘Em Throwin’ Dollars” has a knack for both putting this woman on a pedestal and keeping everyone happy in the dance department. Even a casual listener can agree that Beats and his new hip hop track is a head turner.

Relying heavily on replicated lyrics out of the gate, Beats quickly opens up the song to a more than anticipated. For an artist that got his chops spinning records at college parties and events, his workflow chart ranks high. It’s a vortex of mixes and bright beats from there on out, with pauses for scratching and whipping sonic right turns poking through here and there. This is the type of track that gets people out on the dance floor and keeps them there. Beats throws in some tight drum machine stretches, and his hooks are catchy. The chorus is, naturally, got ‘em throwin’ dollars, and he’s persistent about laying down the law, but he adds more depth to the song with the memorable stack your change and the closer twerk, twerk, twerk.

Beats, a Houston native, bundles the speed of Trea, the audacity of Slim Thug and the nostalgia of Nelly (not from Houston, but technically the Midwest; Missouri). I’m not positive his name is his recording name, but I can assume so – the songwriter noted in the press materials is Brian K C White. Prior to this release, Beats dropped “Holla At Me” and “Make You Proud”, all via his own label, Pype Dreams Entertainment. His YouTube page is on fire, with the number of views nearly reaching one million. One reason for this uptick is Beats’ stellar story development. He’s not just spraying the listener with repetitive lyrics, he’s moving the story along. As the plot thickens, so does the music action. He emphasizes each word, not throwing it under the rug or mumbling. Not once during this song does he sound monotonous. He’s nimble with each lyric and the song bumps along like that! What surprised me even more was the length of the song. I kept thinking, okay, he might stop here, but it compiled more pizzazz even more with each stanza.

Beats’ song is the type of song that just has this amazing community feel to it. It’s the type of song that could easily become a summer soundtrack – and the hooks are contagious. I think music lovers – of any genre- will have a lot of fun with this one. Beats’ voice invigorates you and helps you escape – into a story about a love story for the ages. Like or not, materialistic people exist. Amir Beats’ “Got ‘Em Throwin’ Dollars” reaps the benefits.
