Early Samurai Upgrades in Ghost of Tsushima
Upgrades are broken down into three sections. The Samurai and Ghost sections are going to be the most effective upgrades for beginning players. The Stance section will become unlocked as players begin to learn specific stances. This typically occurs after some grinding and after a few Leaders have been killed.
The Perfect Parry and Roll upgrades are the first that can be unlocked in the Samurai section. These should be taken advantage of as soon as possible. Learning the Parry mechanic can be tricky enough. Being able to turn a Perfect Parry into a devastating attack is just what new players need to incentivize. practicing this skill.
Grab the Perfect Healing Parry, and Resolved Parry upgrades as they become available. These both will provide ample opportunities for healing during packed fights. This will be essential to new players who are struggling to get the hang of the combat. Every successful Parry and Perfect Parry will now be beneficial in more ways than one. Dodging Slash is also an important upgrade to unlock. This will leave enemies open for a quick slash attack directly after a well timed dodge.
Don’t worry about the Unyielding Parry options. Early-game enemies will not use Blue unblockable attacks, thus this upgrade will be useless for a good portion of the start of the game.
Early Ghost Upgrades in Ghost of Tsushima
The Ghost upgrade tree is more complex than the Samurai tree. The first section within this tree is the Ghost Weapons section. These weapons are a collection of throwables that either do damage, cause distractions, or stun enemies. These weapons can be unlocked as the player’s Legend rating increases. The Kunai and Sticky Bomb seem to be the most helpful early in the game. This will equip players with a great way to stun two enemies with the Kunai and take out at least one right away with the sticky bomb. They also do not need to be aimed to be thrown directly at the nearest enemy.
The Evolving Tactics section is filled with skills that are unlocked throughout the story. Luckily, most of these are unlocked within the first hours of the game. The Standoff upgrades are definitely ones that players should consider grabbing first. The initial Standoff skill allows the player to take out one enemy at the start of the fight with a well timed strike. The Standoff Streak and Improved Standoff Streak upgrades allow players to take out up to three enemies before the fight even gets properly started. This is incredibly valuable to beginners.
