Pure Bathing Culture Honor Richard Swift With New Carrido EP, Share New Song: Listen

Music, News

Pure Bathing Culture have announced a new EP called Carrido. It was created in honor of Richard Swift, the duo’s late producer and collaborator who oversaw recording of PBC’s self-titled debut EP and first album, Moon Tides. The EP was recorded at the same place as those albums: Swift’s National Freedom Studio, built behind his home in Oregon.

According to a press release, Richard Swift’s wife Shealynn invited Pure Bathing Culture to be the first band to record at National Freedom following her husband’s death. The Carrido EP consists of three new songs and a cover of Richard Swift’s “Would You?,” from 2008’s Ground Trouble Jaw EP.

Pure Bathing Culture’s Carrido arrives on July 3—the two-year anniversary of Swift’s death. Listen to the duo’s “Something Silver” below (via Infinite Companion).

Pure Bathing Culture derived their EP’s title from Richard Swift’s birth name Ricardo Ochoa. “As we were working I was doing something I often do, I started writing the same word over and over again and in this instance the word was RICARDO,” Sarah Versprille said in a statement. “It started to shift and soon it transformed. I started writing the word CARRIDO over and over again.”

Versprille continued, “For us, Carrido became a world where we could be with our friend again, a place where we could be together one more time doing what we love. It’s a place where we can make sense of the things that happen that feel tragic and inexplicably heartbreaking…. It’s a place where we can go to find our way back to ourselves again.”
