Don Mancini’s upcoming Chucky TV series may feature characters from previous Child’s Play movies. Mancini created the Child’s Play franchise back in 1988 with Tom Holland directing the first film in the series. The franchise continued for another six films, the last three of which Mancini directed himself.
Despite the series being rebooted last year with Lars Klevberg’s Child’s Play, Mancini is continuing his story this year with a Child’s Play TV series. Cult of Chucky was somewhat of a return to form for the series and even brought back Alex Vincent as an adult Andy Barclay. The end of Cult of Chucky saw the return of Jennifer Tilly as Tiffany, who is the only character confirmed for the series besides Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky. Christine Elise reprised her role of Kyle (from Child’s Play 2) in the post-credits scene for Cult of Chucky, but hasn’t been confirmed for the TV show just yet. However, the series could include other characters from the Child’s Play movies.

When talking with Syfy Wire, Mancini teased that characters from the Child’s Play franchise could make an appearance in Chucky. When talking about the characters Chucky will include, Mancini teased, “I think fans are really gonna love to see the new characters that we introduce into this realm and just to see how they came off of our classic characters. Not just Chucky, but some of the others that you may be hoping to see. There’s a good chance they may turn up.” Mancini also explained that Chucky will have new goals as compared to previous movies, but that the story will “continue on with this ever-expanding tapestry of consistent story that we’ve spun over the course of seven movies and 30-some years”.
While Chucky will be coming to the small screen this year, the character could return to the big screen at some point as well. Due to Child’s Play rights issues between Universal and Orion, the latter was able to release the Child’s Play reboot mentioned above, which focused on a high-tech Chucky. The film happened without the approval of Mancini, who even declined a producer credit on the film. Klevberg’s movie got mixed to negative reviews at the box office, and there hasn’t been any word on a Child’s Play sequel yet, but the end of the movie did leave the door open for one.
Originally Chucky was believed to be continuing the Cult of Chucky storyline, but the official plot synopsis seemed to be going in a different direction, with Chucky terrorizing an “idyllic American town.” If Chucky does finish the Cult of Chucky storyline, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) would have to be included since Chucky has possessed her body, and Kyle would more than likely be included as well. In short, there are several characters that could be included in Chucky, and official announcements should come out here soon if the show is still going to premiere this year.
