In February, fans fell head-over-heels in love with Netflix’s series Love is Blind. The show asked contestants and viewers to put aside their shallow notions of the ideal mate. Instead, they were encouraged to look towards inner beauty and find their soulmates. Love is Blind became a global success.
Fans rushed to watch this inventive new series. They had favorite couples and some they despised. Social media buzzed all season and beyond about it, and fans couldn’t wait for the new seasons.
With Love is Blind season 2 and 3 coming, Screen Rant decided to go to the source and find out what it takes to make it onto the cast of this Netflix original. Screen Rant spoke to Donna Driscoll, the head of casting at Love is Blind.
We got her insight into many pressing audition and application questions. One thing, we, and many fans, have been wondering about is whether this season will strictly focus on heterosexual couples or will the LGBTQ community get some representation? In season 1, Love is Blind had a sexually fluid contestant, Cartlton Morton.
Carlton kept his sexuality secret from then fiancee Diamond Jack. When he finally revealed that he dates men and women, it led to one of the most discussed and explosive moments of Love is Blind season 1.
The Love is Blind season 2 application features questions on sexuality, so Screen Rant asked Donna if the questions were added based on the Carlton and Diamond incident, and how sexuality may play a part next season. She had this to say:
No, that question wasn’t added because of Carlton and Diamond. Carlton was forthcoming with us from the get go that he was fluid but he was only interested in the experiment for a wife. I can’t answer that question right now. All I can say is that we’re casting for amazing personalities that are marriage minded, and are looking at every single application.
Donna didn’t directly answer a yes or no about whether LGBTQ people will be represented, but it’s safe to assume that it’s a possibility. Next season takes place in Chicago, and the city has a vibrant LGBTQ scene. With the show being so successful, Netflix (should and probably will) increase the budget.
This might make it possible to focus on heterosexual couples and LGBTQ ones. One of Love is Blind’s issues is a lack of diversity, and this would be a good way to add some more representation to the cast.
Love is Blind season 2 has yet to begin filming, but you can catch the entire first season on Netflix.
