Just because the production of most reality TV shows is on hold these days, that doesn’t mean that the reality star news is going to stop. The Hills alum Kristin Cavallari and her husband Jay Cutler are getting a divorce, after ten years together.
The couple’s dynamic has been a major part of Kristin’s E! reality show Very Cavallari. The NFL player serves as her sounding board and adds some comic relief to the mix. A major storyline during the entire run of the show has been adjusting to life after Jay retired from the NFL. He used to be super busy with work commitments, traveling often. Then, fans got to witness the shift in dynamics as Kristin’s jewelry business Uncommon James took center stage. She also hosted the Paradise Hotel reboot last summer.
Viewers saw little spats here and there, but, ultimately all of those ended with Jay promising to put in more effort to support Kristin and her business. He became a bigger presence on her show as time went on. The couple seemed to be the embodiment of the old adage “opposites attract.” She was a seasoned reality TV star while he preferred to live a more private life. Even so, they both agreed to keep their three kids out of the limelight, keeping them away from reality TV and hiding their faces on social media.
Kristin broke the divorce news with an Instagram post on Sunday. She told her followers, “With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce. We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of. This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family.” As of this moment, the NFL player has not made any comments on his own, but the statement was written on behalf of both of them.
Kristin hasn’t elaborated on the circumstances surrounding the split, but they did just vacation in the Bahamas a month ago. They were there with their three kids, Kristin’s Very Cavallari co-star Justin Anderson, Justin’s fiance Scoot. They documented a lot of the trip with Instagram photos, which caught some flack since almost everyone else in the country was quarantined.
The split is pretty shocking since Kristin and Jay really seemed to be on the same page during Very Cavallari‘s third season. But, at least there’s a tiny silver lining here. Kristin can document a major change in her life if the show returns for a fourth season. While this news appeared to come out of left field, they have split before. They broke up after getting engaged, but then they got back together, welcomed their first child together and got married. If history (and The Hills theme song) is an indication of anything, “the rest is still unwritten.”
