Tony Stark Attends Steve Rogers’ Funeral In Avengers: Endgame Fan Art

Movies

Tony Stark attends Captain America’s funeral after he snapped instead in Avengers: Endgame fan art. The culmination of more than a decade’s worth of interconnected storytelling, the 2019 film was both a critical and financial success – becoming the highest grossing movie of all time. Interwoven in its big stakes action were smaller but significant character moments that were especially peppered in Avengers: Endgame‘s climactic battle, including Tony Stark’s heroic death after wielding the power of all six Infinity Stones. This was followed by an emotional tribute that gathered all heroes in the universe.

Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo with the script written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Endgame wraps up Marvel Studios’ Infinity Saga, which centered around the six Infinity Stones. The MCU had been building toward the film for years with both Iron Man and Captain America’s journeys leading toward their face-off with Thanos (Josh Brolin). Avengers: Infinity War kept the pair separated, which led to their defeat, but they ultimately set aside their differences in Endgame to work toward bringing together those who perished during the Decimation. Each had a role to play in the Mad Titan’s defeat, but new fan art imagines what the aftermath would’ve been like had Steve Rogers died from snapping his fingers rather than Tony.

The illustration shared by Comicshub on Instagram reveals Tony attending what’s supposed to be Steve’s funeral at the end of Endgame. The new piece is attached to a previously released one by Nikolay Mochkin imagining Captain America in the act of snapping his fingers to take down Thanos during the climactic battle. Check out the image below:

The funeral piece puts Tony in Steve’s place during his funeral scene in Avengers: Endgame. There’s no other changes made to it, which is why Rhodey (Don Cheadle) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) are in front of him. Things would’ve looked a little different if it was actually Steve’s service in the movie. Sam (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky (Sebastian Stan) – who were his closest pals – would’ve been at the front of the funeral scene. In any case, fans aren’t even sure if Captain America’s send off would pan out the same way as Iron Man’s did since the two couldn’t be any more different in terms of personality. Regardless, it’s safe to say that Marvel Studios would’ve still found a good way to pay homage to the super soldier that’s both fitting and moving.

There have been plenty of arguments about how Steve and Tony’s ultimate fates in Avengers: Endgame should’ve panned out. There are some who continue to counter that Tony didn’t deserve to die, while others say the selfless act was more on-brand for Steve. Regardless, both of their send-offs were justified looking back at their respective trajectories in the franchise. In any case, the fact that Marvel Studios was able to deliver a generally satisfying conclusion to the Infinity Saga in Avengers: Endgame was already impressive considering how difficult endings are to deliver.
