Swamp Thing Season 2 Video Reveals Detailed Look At Floronic Man Design

Movies

Video has surfaced of actor Kevin Durand in costume as Floronic Man for the canceled second season of DC Universe’s critically acclaimed series, Swamp Thing. Despite successful shows like Titans and Doom Patrol, the DC Universe app earned significant ire among fans for its unceremonious cancellation of Swamp Thing. A sci-fi bayou horror tale about a man turned into a creature who protects the swamp from various threats; Swamp Thing earned praise for its terror-tinged sensibilities, outstanding production design, and haunting main character.

Alas, nothing good can stay, and Swamp Thing was canceled just after debuting its premiere episode. Reports vary as to why the show was canned, from internal politics regarding the horror tone of the series to budget concerns. Either way, the show is no more, and fans only have a single season of Swamp Thing to enjoy, not including the character’s cameo in The CW network’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, which was made entirely of archival footage from the series.

Though little is known about what would have happened in season 2 of Swamp Thing, one plotline that was set up in season 1 regarded the fate of Dr. Jason Woodrue, who ended the season by transforming into the horrific Floronic Man. Apparently, pre-production on season 2 had already begun when the series was canceled, as indicated in footage released by makeup artist Kevin Kirkpatrick on his Instagram. The footage reveals actor Kevin Durand in full makeup and costume as the super-villain.

Swamp Thing’s take on Floronic Man looks like a scary version of Marvel’s Groot, with demonic eyes and broken teeth lending the creature a menacing look. It’s an extremely impressive practical suit, which surely would have looked amazing next to the equally incredible Swamp Thing costume worn by actor Derek Mears on the show.

It’s a shame DC Universe canceled Swamp Thing, but there’s always a chance the show’s characters will be able to live on in some form or another. Thanks to Crisis on Infinite Earth establishing that the entire DC canon is connected via a multiverse, there’s always hope the Swamp Thing characters will find a way to crossover and give viewers a sense of closure. It worked for Matt Ryan’s John Constantine; after his NBC show was canceled, his version of the character appeared on Arrow before becoming a regular cast member on Legends of Tomorrow. So, while it’s a longshot, there’s always a chance that the characters of Swamp Thing might live on in one form or another. Maybe audiences will get the opportunity to see Kevin Durand suit up as Floronic Man in more than just a behind-the-scenes snippet.
