After tonight (March 23rd), the series is going on a forced hiatus.
The current fifteenth season of The CW’s “Supernatural” will be the show’s final season, but unfortunately the remaining episodes won’t be airing as originally planned due to the production being halted as the world grapples with the coronavirus pandemic. With just a couple weeks left to film the final episodes, production was indefinitely shut down weeks ago.
We now have some clarification on what precisely that means for the series, with showrunner Andrew Dabb tweeting today that the show is taking a break after tonight’s episode.
Dabb tweeted, “Due to the shutdown, this will be our last episode for awhile.”
“We have filmed through episode 18, however our visual effects and sound departments have closed because of the outbreak. So, right now, the episodes can’t be finished. However, [we] have some special treats coming along the way– to help us all get through this,” he continued. “And yes, we, the CW, and Warner Bros fully intend to return and finish the series. It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.”
Tonight’s episode, the thirteenth in season fifteen, is titled “Destiny’s Child.” The final season will feature twenty episodes in total, and there’s no telling when production will resume.
