The CW’s hit show Riverdale has halted its season 4 production in Vancouver after a member of their team came into contact with the coronavirus. Riverdale follows the classic characters from Archie Comics, including Archie Andrews (KJ Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Veronica Lodge (Camilla Mendes), and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). While it is still set in Riverdale, with Pop’s Diner and Josie and the Pussycats, the CW’s version is darker, featuring lots of mystery and murder.
As reported by THR, Riverdale was filming the fourth season in Vancouver when this incident caused them to shut down production. A statement from Warner Bros. Television stated that the “team member is currently receiving medical evaluation,” and “the health and safety of our employees, casts and crews is always our top priority.”
Following many other productions, conventions, and music festivals, they are taking great caution to protect their staff and the public against the coronavirus. Just today, the World Health Organization declared the coronavirus a pandemic. It is unknown when production on Riverdale will start up again.
Riverdale is one of the CW’s most popular shows, and has been generally well-received by critics. In January, the CW renewed it for a fifth season along with 12 other series. The show takes place in the same universe as Netflix‘s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and though they’ve hinted at it, there is yet to be a crossover.
