Megan Thee Stallion Says She’s Releasing New Album Suga This Week

Music, News

Megan Thee Stallion has announced that she’ll release her debut album Suga this Friday (March 6). The eight-track project is set to include her single “B.I.T.C.H.,” as well as collaborations with Kehlani and Gunna. Check out the Suga cover and tracklist below.

Earlier this week, Megan Thee Stallion claimed that her label 1501 Certified Entertainment was preventing her from releasing new music. She then filed a lawsuit against 1501 to get out of her contract. After filing her suit, Meg was granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) from a district judge in Harris County, Texas, which allows her to release new music.

Yesterday, 1501 and its founder/CEO Carl Crawford filed an emergency motion to dissolve the TRO, TMZ reports and Pitchfork can confirm via court records. In the motion, lawyers for 1501 and Crawford argue that Megan Thee Stallion’s distribution agreement with 1501 and 300 Entertainment grants the labels “the right to set and approve release dates for” her music, and that the Houston rapper “can assert no such rights under either Agreement.”

In addition, the lawyers argue that the TRO should be dismissed because Meg did not notify 1501 and Crawford about the initial TRO request and, instead, they claim, went to TMZ with the news. They write:

[Megan Thee Stallion] could have provided the required notice to [1501
Certified Entertainment and Carl Crawford] and held the hearing
requesting the TRO before the March 6, 2020 date currently designated
to release her music. Instead, the tabloid media outlet
TMZ was provided the TRO hours before [Megan Thee Stallion] served [1501
and Crawford] with any notice regarding the application or issuance of
the TRO.

In an interview with Billboard earlier this week, Crawford called Meg’s lawsuit “a whole lie,” adding, “Nothing is true that she said.”

Pitchfork has reached out to 1501 Certified Entertainment’s representatives and attorneys, as well as representatives for Megan Thee Stallion, for comment and more information.
