‘Zeno’: Joe Carnahan and Frank Grillo’s Planned Remake of ‘The Raid’ is No Longer a Remake of ‘The Raid’

Horror

As you may recall, Joe Carnahan (The Grey, Boss Level) has been developing a remake of Indonesian fight film The Raid, and an interesting update comes via Collider this week.

Speaking with the site, Carnahan and star Frank Grillo have revealed that their take on The Raid isn’t exactly a Raid movie anymore, but rather an original film now titled Zeno.

We own the script that we wrote,” Grillo explained. “We parted ways with XYZ [Films] who owns the title, but not the script. We are right now negotiating with a big name.”

In director Gareth Evans’ The Raid: Redemption, “A S.W.A.T. team becomes trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers and thugs.”

Carnahan explained how his script is different “Just so there’s a clarification. The version that I wrote – they don’t ever intend to actually go in [to the building]. They think that they’re gonna move this guy. So their whole operation is, ‘we’re gonna hit this guy in transit.’ And it’s not until they realize, ‘oh they’re digging in, they’re not moving…we’ve gotta go in and get him.”

It’s a very, very different script. It’s really, really about the [two] brothers. Zeno. That’s what it’s called. Which is the main character’s name. That’s what it’s called right now.”

Grillo, at this time, is set to play one of the brothers.
