Chase Rice wouldn’t have accepted a rose from “The Bachelor” had he known what would have unfolded with the cameras rolling.
During an appearance on the “Fitz and the Morning” radio show, which aired Friday, the 34-year-old country singer reflected on his experience on the ABC reality show, in which he encountered “Bachelor” star Peter Weber on a one-on-one concert date with his ex, Victoria Fuller.
“We spent a night together in Charlotte,” Rice said, according to People. “She’s a cool chick from what I know of her. You know, I got no problem with her. I got no problem with him. You know, I knew she was going on the show.”
In Monday’s episode, Weber, 28, took Fuller, 25, to a private Rice concert. The singer, who wanted to promote his music on the show, said he previously expressed hesitations to his team.
“So I told my manager and my publicist, they were like, ‘Don’t even worry about that,’” Rice explained. “They’re not going to do that to you, that’s a weird coincidence, but they’re not gonna — there’s no way they would do that to you. They’ve never brought somebody else in like that, surprised the guest on the show.’”
During the concert, Weber and Fuller are seen dancing in front of the stage — eventually sharing a kiss — as Rice performed.
“So the fact they did that to me, it’s over the top, it’s unnecessary, I didn’t expect it,” Rice said. “But at the end of the day, it happened. I don’t know if it’s the producers, or if they just got lucky. I know what I think, but I’ll let everybody else figure out what they think.”
Though Rice is a reality TV vet, having previously competed on “Survivor,” he wants nothing to do with Bachelor Nation.
“If there’s anything I ever wanted, it’s to have nothing to do with the drama of that show,” he said.
Fuller, who is expected to be a part of this season’s more dramatic moments, later opened up to Weber about her history with Rice during the dinner portion of their date.
“I think it would be really unfair to you if I didn’t tell you,” Fuller said. “The end part was a little weird for me… Chase and I used to date. We dated but I broke it off with him because his lifestyle doesn’t really match up to what I want. I knew that I wanted to give this a try with you.”
“The Bachelor” airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
