During a Reddit promotion for The Grudge, Sam Raimi was taking on fan questions and let everyone in on some very interesting little tidbits.
It’s been reported that Raimi and his band of cohorts are working on a brand new Evil Dead installment. One that Bruce Campbell said will have a “new filmmaker” handpicked by Raimi to take over directing duties because if anything Campbell says is to be believed, Ash is no longer a viable character because he’s “been retired”.
During the AMA on Reddit this is what Raimi had to say;
“Bruce, Rob [Tapert] and I are working with a young filmmaker who is writing a new Evil Dead story that he will direct,”
When pressed to comment on him returning to the director’s chair for an installment, Raimi was noted as saying;
“As for me…. I would love to direct a new Evil Dead movie… but I’d really like to do it with Bruce. And he says he’s retired the character. I hope not.”
There has also been a lot of speculation about a sequel to Fede Alvarez’s 2013 remake and Sam had something to say about that one too;
“If Fede would write or direct it, yes, in a split second!”
Seems like there are plenty of irons in the fire in the universe of the Evil Dead, so we will only have to wait and see what happens in the coming months!
