Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 4 Trailer Reveals Major Characters Return

Movies

The Arrowverse’s Crisis On Infinite Earths Part 4 trailer for The CW’s mega-crossover has just been released, and it appears some of the characters who were thought to be dead beforehand are coming back. The franchise-spanning event aired its first three parts a few weeks ago, with the final two episodes of Crisis on Infinite Earths being set to air on January 14 following a holiday break.

As of Part 3, the seven chosen Paragons of the Multiverse – consisting of Barry Allen/The Flash, Kara Danvers/Supergirl, Sara Lance/White Canary, Kate Kane/Batwoman, J’onn J’onzz/Martian Manhunter, Lex Luthor (who stole his position from the Superman of Earth-96 via the Book of Destiny), and newcomer Ryan Choi (who is set to take over the mantle of The Atom in the near future) – were left as the last heroes alive when Earth-1 was swallowed in a wave of antimatter. This left every other character in the Arrowverse presumably lost, though the new trailer reveals that may no longer be the case.

The new Crisis on Infinite Earths trailer shows the Paragons stranded at the limbo-like Vanishing Point, as Kara says they’re going to “get everyone that we lost back.” The Anti-Monitor then declares “all life ends” as several brief battle scenes play out. We then see Oliver, seemingly alive and well following the Green Arrow’s death and subsequent revival as the Spectre, pummeling an unknown enemy in a green-lit building, followed by a shot of an eye flashing open - most likely his. From there, Killer Frost and Heatwave, both believed to have died in the destruction of Earth 1, ask Black Lighting (who wishes to avenge the loss of his own family and world) if he is ready to resume the fight to save the Multiverse. The trailer ends with Barry and Sara rallying the remaining heroes as we see Earth-1 apparently being restored, confirming its destruction at the end of Part 3 will indeed be undone. Fans had assumed the annihilation of Earth-1 wouldn’t stick, given its status as the homeworld of most of the shows in the Arrowverse (only Supergirl and Black Lightning take place outside it). It’s still unknown how it will be restored, but the reality-altering Book of Destiny might play a role considering Luthor took a page from it in order to escape the antimatter wave. However, using the book can drive one insane, as demonstrated by Dr. John Deegan in last year’s Elseworlds crossover, so there might be a terrible price to be paid in bringing back the Earth.

As for Oliver, we surprisingly see him not as the Spectre, but in his Arrow season 5 costume, which is curious in and of itself. It’s not certain who he’s fighting in his brief scene, but the person’s hair and dark clothing point to it being Adrian Chase/Prometheus, season 5’s main antagonist. Chase killed himself at the end of that season, raising questions on how Oliver could be fighting him now. In the comics, the Spectre is a spirit who punishes wicked souls, and Chase very well fits that description. It’s possible this scene is Oliver giving the killer a divine beatdown in Hell, appearing as he did when Chase caused him so much pain beforehand, and this would certainly explain the odd coloring on display during the moment. In any case, fans can get the answers when Parts 4 and 5 of Arrowverse‘s Crisis on Infinite Earths hits The CW on Tuesday, January 14.
