Tyler, the Creator Reflects on Bastard for 10th Anniversary

Music, News

Tyler, the Creator has shared a note on Instagram reflecting on his 2009 mixtape Bastard, which arrived on Christmas day that year. “Christmas 2009 I released my first album Bastard on zshare to 46 people,” Tyler wrote in the post. “I had ideas, an unmeasurable amount of energy and wanted to piss off/get a reaction from anyone who had ears.” He added, “I was 18, although a lot of these songs were made when I was 16/17. I’d like to say Syd and Travis opening their home up to me and my ideas was my real big break. That quaint space we dubbed as the ‘the trap’ was drowned in magic.”

Tyler goes on to run through the inspiration and recording processes behind a few of Bastard’s tracks. He also thanks the people who made the album possible. “It’s been a decade!” he wrote. “It was such an amazing time and I’m not sure if we really knew what we were doing.” Find Tyler’s full post below.

Earlier this week, Tyler dropped two new songs, “Best Interest” and “Group B.”
