The new Sonic the Hedgehog TV spot features new footage and a reference to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s presidency. Johnson has a lot going on at the moment with Jumanji: The Next Level opening at number one this weekend at the box office. However, he took some time out of his day to recognize the little blue hedgehog on social media. The studio seems to have made the right decision with the redesign and new release date.

In the latest look at Sonic the Hedgehog, we see the iconic video game character in all sorts of action. It’s a really good look at the upcoming movie and at one point, Sonic can be heard asking, “Where am I? What year is it? Is The Rock president?” Dwayne Johnson has teased a possible presidential run for years now, and if anybody can pull it off, it’s Johnson. The studio made sure to tag Johnson in the tweet, which caught his attention. He responded and had this to say.
“So crazy I used to love playing Sonic in college. Many moons later this… life can be so damn wildly unpredictable and surreal at times.”
Dwayne Johnson finished up his response with the “mind-blown” emoji. One can tell that the actor is very happy to be where he is in life and is humble about it. Jumanji: The Next Level exceeded box office predictions by at least $10 million this weekend and Johnson is on top of the world. Now, one of his favorite video game characters is namechecking him in a new national TV spot. It’s nice to know that even people in Johnson’s position still get excited about certain things like that.
As for Sonic the Hedgehog, the fans are now rallying in the movie’s corner after the recent Sonic redesign. When the world was treated to the original look, it almost broke the internet. Sonic did not look like his video game and cartoon counterparts. Instead, the studio went with the idea to give the hedgehog human features, which was actually quite creepy. Did it deserve all of the backlash it received? Probably not, but that’s the way it works these days. So, the studio went back to the drawing board.
Going back to redesign Sonic the Hedgehog after the first trailer had been released was a gamble. Fans could have easily bashed the new look too, but for the most part, it seems like video game fans are now excited to see the movie. As for if it’s any good is still anyone’s guess at the moment, but it does look promising. Regardless, we know Dwayne Johnson will be checking it out at some point.
