The Mortal Kombat reboot has officially wrapped production. Writer Greg Russo took to social media to reveal the news. The news comes after Warner Bros. announced its upcoming release schedule earlier this week. The studio has revealed that the reboot is actually coming out sooner than initially thought. Instead of the March 2021 release date, fans of the video game franchise will be able to see it on January 15th , 2021. We’re still pretty far from seeing the movie on the big screen, but it is now one huge step closer to being complete.
Production on the Mortal Kombat reboot started back in September of this year. Shooting took place in Australia with James Wan acting as producer. So far, the hype has been off the charts for the reboot, especially with Wan’s name attached to the project. The reboot’s writer, Greg Russo, had this to say about the production wrapping.

Simon McQuoid was brought on to direct the Mortal Kombat reboot and is making his feature-length debut. The cast includes Joe Taslim (Sub-Zero), Hiroyuki Sanada (Scorpion), Chin Han (Shang Tsung), Ludi Lin (Liu Kang), Jessica McNamee (Sonya Blade), Josh Lawson (Kano), Tadanobu Asano (Raiden), Mehcad Brooks (Jax), Sisi Stringer (Mileena), and Lewis Tan in the mysterious lead role. As for what the movie will be about, that is being kept under wraps for the time being. We should get some more information when the first footage arrives, which won’t be for a bit longer.
As far as footage from the Mortal Kombat reboot is concerned, we’ve only seen set videos and images posted on social media by some of the cast. While we weren’t able to learn anything about the plot of the project, they gave an exciting glimpse of just how much work was going on behind-the-scenes to get things right. The video game franchise has been adapted for the big screen before, but the new reboot is looking to blow the previous installments out of the water.
The Mortal Kombat video game series started out in 1992 and quickly caused a stir in the arcades around the world. The fighting game was quickly added to home consoles and is currently on its 11th installment, which has proven to be a monster success across the globe. The franchise is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, though it never really went away. After the success of the latest version of the game, fans are looking forward to the reboot to see what the franchise looks like on the big screen in 2021.
