The Batman Isn’t a Superhero Declares Robert Pattinson

Movies

Robert Pattinson doesn’t believe that Batman is a superhero. DC fans were stunned to learn the Twilight star was cast as Bruce Wayne in Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman. Pattinson is taking over the role from Ben Affleck, who was last seen on the big screen as the Caped Crusader in 2017’s Justice League. Reeves is going for a younger version of the character, which will reportedly bring the hero back to his detective roots. Details about the long-awaited project are being kept under wraps for the time being.

In a new interview, Robert Pattinson revealed he doesn’t think Batman is a superhero. This is a debate that has gone on for years now, and the actor has just sparked it up once again. There are many who believe the character is a superhero, and then there are others who think the exact opposite. Pattinson had this to say about the matter.

“Batman’s not a superhero (laughs)… It’s weird, I always balk at it. I’m like, ‘It doesn’t count, you need to have like magical powers to be a superhero.'”

Robert Pattinson also recently argued that Batman isn’t even a true hero. “Batman’s not a hero, though. He’s a complicated character. I don’t think I could ever play a real hero – there’s always got to be something a little bit wrong,” says Pattinson. There are more than a few DC fans who will strongly disagree with that statement, but the actor might have a few in his corner. As for how, it would really depend on which version of the character one is basing their opinion on.

Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix recently put out the Joker, which is more grounded in reality. It is not a typical comic book movie and Arthur Fleck is just a normal man with mental health issues. It’s unclear if Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves are going in the same direction, but the whole Batman not being a superhero debate is nothing new. Bruce Wayne, much like Tony Stark, is a millionaire with a lot of toys. He doesn’t have any magical abilities, he was not bitten by a radioactive spider, or injected with the Super Soldier Serum. He’s pretty much a normal guy with money and mental health problems.

Using this same argument, one would say that Hawkeye isn’t a superhero either. Tony Stark and Black Widow would be thrown into that mix too. It’s an interesting topic to think about and there really is no right or wrong answer, it would just depend on one’s definition of a superhero. Do superpowers make up a superhero, or is it an intense drive and ambition to make the world, or universe, a better place? Whatever the case may be, Robert Pattinson doesn’t think The Batman will show off any magical powers are abilities on the big screen. You can check out the interview with Pattinson over at Today.
