Over 40 years in the making, director J.J. Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker is all set to storm into a theater near you next month, take all your money, and run. And in a fun bit of business, last night Rey herself, Daisy Ridley finally weighed in on the biggest debate Star Wars fans have been having over the past few weeks. Which critter is cuter: The Porgs from writer-director Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi or Baby Yoda from Disney+ and Jon Favreau’s hit series The Mandalorian?
As you might imagine, Daisy Ridley quickly and definitively responded, Baby Yoda, saying this about working with Porgs.
“Baby Yoda. Look, I’m not a big fan of the Porgs. We worked for six months on The Last Jedi and every interview, ‘What about the Porgs?’ I was on the set for six months, they were there for a day.”
Fair enough. It must be frustrating as ten types of hell to be so “ruthlessly outshined” by your tiny little puppet costars. Just ask The Mandalorian star, Pedro Pascal. Just kidding. He says he’s fine with being upstaged by Baby Yoda. True story. Anyhow, all of this has me wondering, will Baby Yoda show up in J.J. Abrams’ The Rise of Skywalker? Chances are more than a little slim considering the timeline, but hell, I guess it could still happen. After all, species age differently than others. But let’s not hold our breath.
In the meantime, remember that J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will finally bring the Skywalker saga to a definitive end with the ancient battle between the Jedi and the Sith reaching its long-awaited climax. More specifically, Rise of Skywalker is said to pick up the action a year after the ending of Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi to find the surviving Resistance facing off with the First Order one final time. Again, this isn’t much to go on as far as a plot synopsis goes. But I think from all the trailers, clips, and leaks that have been flooding these here internets over the past few months (or, better yet, years) it’s safe to say that we all already know a bit too much about the film’s A to B plot specifics. So let’s just cut back on all of that and give the film some relatively fresh eyes next month.
In the end, all we can really hope is that the powers that be behind the scenes of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and/or The Mandalorian are smart enough to go ahead and fashion fans a scene were Baby Yoda meets and/or defeats the Porgs. I’d buy that for a dollar! But all jokes aside, Disney, please make this happen. Even if it’s in a new Star Wars Christmas Special. We’ve all been good this year after all. Anyhow, this fun bit of business comes to us from a recent interview Daisy Ridley conducted over on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
