The Shining in the White House: Don’t Breathe Director Has His Next Movie

Movies

We let you guys know earlier this week that The Girl in the Spider’s Web director Fede Alvarez’s upcoming reboot of Tobe Hooper’s horror classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre has snagged its screenwriter with first-timer, Chris Thomas Devlin. Alvarez is only set to produce that new The Texas Chainsaw Massacre flick but today we have word that he has chosen his next directing effort. And it sounds killer. Yes, Alvarez is all set to helm a movie described as “The Shining in the White House” from screenwriter Joe Epstein.

As you might imagine being that this project doesn’t even have an official title yet, plot details are being kept under wraps. But at the beginning, middle, or end of the day does it really matter? I mean if you tell this here horror movie fanatic that the director of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe is making The Shining in the White House, I will tell you that I’m there. 100%. Hook, line, and sinker.

Truth be told, let me just come out and say that, like many other people out there, I’ve had this idea for a haunted house movie set in the White House for years now. But I guess I always assumed, for some reason, that it was going to make its way to the screen via Glee and American Crime Story creator Ryan Murphy’s hit horror anthology series American Horror Story. And that still makes a lot of sense to me because when you say “American” I think the White House and when you add “Horror Story” I think haunted. That or maybe the combination of a group of people forced to hold up in the Statue of Liberty during a zombie apocalypse. *Grabs notepad* Oh, that’s good. Dibs.

Anyhow, no cast has been announced, or even rumored, for this new fright flick at this time, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Fede Alvarez will probably make room for his Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe muse Jane Levy in there somewhere. Now what this means for rumored future Fede Alvarez motion pictures we do not know. After all the man has been teasing us with both an Evil Dead sequel and a Don’t Breathe follow-up for years now. And while I’m head over horror heels in love with the premise of his new movie, I can say without a doubt that I’d much rather see the man take on Evil Dead 2 and/or Don’t Breathe 2 before this haunted White House movie. Especially considering that Don’t Breathe and Crawl producer Sam Raimi has said in the past that the pitch for Don’t Breathe 2 is only the greatest idea for a sequel that he’s ever heard! Great, just keep dangling that carrot in front of us fanboys, Raimi.

Anyway, as long as Fede Alvarez promises to be done with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo aka Millennium book series by Stieg Larsson, I really don’t mind which project he chooses as his next big-screen venture. Oh, and whatever happened to Labyrinth 2, Fede? I forgot about that one… This story comes to us from Deadline.
