DOCTOR SLEEP Drops 56% In Second Weekend!

Horror

When Stephen King first released the novel to Doctor Sleep, a lot of folks were wondering how he could continue on the story of Danny Torrence. When people read it they found out just how.

Now with the Mike Flanagan helmed film in theaters, one would expect it to have a really good showing financially. One would be very wrong as DOCTOR SLEEP dropped another 56% at the box office for its second weekend.

What that means is the film landed outside the top 5 spot only garnering an estimated $6.1 million bringing its domestic total to just $25 million after being in theaters for two weeks. On the international front, the film only made $5.2 million after being on 7650 screens in 71 markets.

The total worldwide is $28.8 million.

There is a lot of rumbling about the film failing because of its connection to the Shining, which is currently loved by a good portion of the horror community but failed during its initial release. They also blame the run time and lack of marketing at San Diego Comic Con.

There is no telling what this will do in regards Mike Flanagan who has been a critical darling in the horror genre.  Hopes are that the film finds its footing during a release on VOD, Blu Ray and DVD.
