Burt Macklin: Andy’s Best Parks & Rec Persona | Screen Rant

Movies

Andy Dwyer had many memorable alter egos on Parks & Rec but FBI Agent Burt Macklin was his funniest. Chris Pratt’s role as Andy Dwyer was originally intended to be temporary but after the Parks & Rec team saw how great Pratt was they decided to promote him to series regular. Hence, Andy evolved from the lazy, workshy boyfriend of Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones) into a more central and lovable character.

Dim-witted as he often was, Andy showed a lot of creativity and wild imagination as the character grew, especially in his penchant for crafting hilarious and wacky alter egos. Over the course of the show’s seven seasons, Parks & Rec fans witnessed many different Andy personas. There was possum tackler Andy Radical, Brother Nature (AKA Mother Nature’s brother) and Johnny Karate – the children’s birthday party entertainer alter ego that got Andy his own kids’ TV show, The Johnny Karate Super Awesome Musical Explosion Show.

Andy Dwyer’s funniest and most frequent alter ago was Burt Macklin, FBI Agent. Burt first appeared in a season 2 episode of Parks & Rec in which he interrogated Greg Pikitis – the teenage arch-nemesis of Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) responsible for a series of pranks and acts of vandalism in Pawnee. Agent Macklin assisted Leslie  – or at least tried to – several more times, like in season 4 while she’s campaigning for city council and he acts as her bodyguard after somebody tries to throw a pie at her.

Burt Macklin, FBI agent also came out to play when Andy would roleplay with his girlfriend April Ludgate (Aubrey Plaza) and her alter egos, aristocratic widow Janet Snakehole and Judy Hitler – the spoiled only daughter of Adolf Hitler. It was while Andy and April were roleplaying as Burt and Judy Hitler in a season 5 episode of Parks & Rec that Andy unwittingly scared a little boy while in character and semi-retired Burt at the suggestion of April.

Despite his retirement, Burt Macklin made a few more appearances on Parks & Rec before the show came to an end. He popped up in season 5 finale “Are You Better Off?” when he tried to solve the mystery of who was pregnant (it was Ron Swanson’s girlfriend Diane) and made a guest appearance on The Johnny Karate Super Awesome Musical Explosion Show during season 7. Andy brought Burt back one more time for the Parks & Rec series finale and referenced his favorite alter ego in the name of he and April’s first child – Burt Snakehole Ludgate Karate Dracula Macklin Demon Jack-o’-Lantern Dwyer, or Jack for short.
