Snyder Praises Justice League Fans Raising Money For Suicide Prevention

Movies

Director Zack Snyder has once again praised his fans as heroes – for the funds they’ve raised for suicide prevention charities while campaigning for his Justice League cut to be released. Snyder is responsible for kicking off the DCEU with 2013’s Man of Steel. He followed that film up with Batman v Superman, as part of what would have been a five-movie DCEU plan. Unfortunately, Snyder had to step away from the later stages of production on Justice League due to the tragic loss of his own daughter, Autumn, to suicide. Directorial duties then passed to Joss Whedon (The Avengers), who helmed extensive reshoots and made numerous changes to the plot.

In the wake of the film’s release – and its underwhelming reception – numerous fans joined forces to call for Snyder’s original version to be released. The passion of that campaign has only grown with each new detail regarding Snyder’s version that emerges. The latest of which centers on images of Wonder Woman investigating the history of Darkseid and Mother Boxes. A number of celebrities have also lent their support – including such cast members such as Jason Momoa, Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, and cult director and past DC Comics writer Kevin Smith.  The group’s collective efforts culminated in huge campaigns at both San Diego and New York Comic-Cons. They have also raised thousands upon thousands of dollars for the aforementioned charities.

Taking to social media, Snyder shared an article from The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The headline of the piece praised superhero fans as being able to emerge as heroes themselves. The popular director seemed to agree fully with the sentiments, stating that he was “honored to have such amazing fans“. The article included an image from campaigners’ efforts from NYCC, which included numerous billboards adorned with various quotes confirming the existence of the ‘Snyder Cut’. The charitable organization also revealed that fans had raised for them a total of $110k so far. The full post can be seen below:

Deborah Snyder also previously praised such efforts, in the wake of the $15,000 that had been raised via SDCC. Both have since returned to work within Hollywood. Both are listed as producers on the box office smash Aquaman and the upcoming DCEU outing, Wonder Woman 1984. They have been also busy with Snyder’s next directorial effort, Army of the Dead. Long in development, the zombie-heist movie is firmly in production now and will star Dave Bautista in the lead role and a diverse and praise-worthy cast.

The DCEU, meanwhile, will continue on, with the Margot Robbie-starring, female-centric Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) scheduled to hit theaters next. It remains to be seen whether the ‘Snyder Cut’ campaign will ultimately bear fruit in terms of that particular film’s release. Snyder’s latest declaration of support, however, will surely only spur on their passion to see his vision realized on-screen. And whatever people think of what transpired with the Justice League movie and the campaign that has since raged, there is no denying the positive, incredibly impressive element that has also emerged from those fans’ aforementioned endeavors.
