Simonetta Lein: “The Future of Fashion

Fashion

Simonetta Lein is one of the top 100 fashion influencers in the world.  A self-made woman, Lein has written for or appeared in Vogue Italia, Harper’s Bazaar, Glamour, Cosmopolitan, Fashion Week Online, and the list goes on forever. As an influencer and a fashion expert who could better predict the future of fashion design?

Where do you see the future of women’s fashion going? And why?

Women are re-discovering their power. They are rising up, knowing that they are mothers and creators. This transpires into a bold fashion, where colors merge with gracious yet show stopping shapes. A woman can follow trends because she likes to do so and become a trend thanks to the power of social media.

What trends do you see becoming most important in the fashion world?

What goes around comes around. Trends in the future are not limited to replicating one decade, but selecting certain elements from the best of them. What is classy yet strong and empowering will come back and stay. I see the return of striking colors such as magenta (80’s) and burnt yellow (70’s), ruffles (50’s to 80’s), capes and pleated pants (old school ) or slushed suits (40’s and 90’s), and clothing that is sheer (timeless). Moreover, social media influencers will again demonstrate their importance in forecasting trends.

What do you foresee becoming most important to the designers?

The fit and quality within an accessible price point. I strongly believe that true luxury with access to the masses is a phenomenon whose time has come. It is pretty impossible nowadays to recreate luxury items that can also be seen as investment vehicles like the brands that have already established themselves as true luxury fashion. The world is moving ever faster, and so is fashion. I foresee quality priced so it is seen as value, so that everyone can feel beautiful and empowered without having to break the bank. I see successful brands going in that direction always with the right attention to trends and social media influencers.

Do you see older styles for example designs from the 1930s he coming relevant again?

Yes absolutely. As stated before, what was classy back then is fashionable now. The 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s are totally back with capes, ruffles, and pleated pants. The 80’s will never die, with bright neon colors that seem to never go out of style.  There is space for every woman, from a super classy to a super bold soul. Designers are covering it all, but with a common thread: what is timeless will always come back.

What country do you see becoming a fashion capital in the future?

It is no longer a country per se, but individual cities that can move styles. Especially new and up and coming trends are re-discovered from the roots of passionate designers that showcase their unique work as a real masterpiece, with the intention of impacting their customers. A big shout out to my beloved city Philadelphia, that is slowly but surely getting so a lot of interest from all over the world, showing that the underdog in history can become a passion in fashion. Millennials and Generation Z consumers are passionate about the story and values behind the brands. That is the future.
