Mark Hamill Jokes He’s Ready For A Child’s Play Sequel If It’s Like This

At a time when remake announcements are coming at us left and right (hello new Face/Off and Princess Bride reboots?), which ones could become revitalized franchises? One fun horror remake to come out of 2019 was Child’s Play starring Mark Hamill as the murderous doll named Chucky. It may not have made a splash at the box office, but a sequel could be a good time! Especially considering Mark Hamill’s recent commentary on a second film.

Check out what the Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker actor shared on Twitter regarding another Child’s Play movie:

Ah, yes, “Bark Hamill” as a stand-in! With additions like these, Andy may not have any problem calling Chucky his best friend. Mark Hamill added some adorableness to spooky season with a retweet of this video of a pup in a Chucky costume with “Good Dogs” on the front pocket and charging with a “knife.”

Mark Hamill showed his seal of approval for the Child’s Play costume, jokingly saying this is how he wants the franchise to return. It’s a clever way to bring attention back to the franchise, because who doesn’t love a cute doggy video to light up their day?

There hasn’t been word yet about whether Mark Hamill’s take on Chucky will continue with a sequel. The movie that opened in June, alongside $1 billion-club earner Toy Story 4, made just $29 million during its box office run. Lars Klevberg’s retelling of the horror classic was made on a production budget of $10 million.

The earnings for Child’s Play aren’t much different than for previous entries in the franchise, but when accounting for price inflation, the 2019 release is on the low end for big-screen Chucky movies. Child’s Play also earned middle-of-the-road reviews from critics, with a 64% Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score.

Mark Hamill proved to be a great choice for Chucky, reportedly going above and beyond to take on the character in the recording booth. His version of the character was an A.I. doll who could be connected to other smart home products, in contrast with the doll’s roots. In the original films, Chucky is the spirit of a serial killer. In the 2019 version, he’s a much more sympathetic villain who learns about hate and violence through his experiences.

For audiences who caught Child’s Play, they know the movie left the door open for a sequel. It also doesn’t hurt that the live-action cast included the talents of Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry, and Gabriel Bateman. Mark Hamill’s time as Luke Skywalker is also soon coming to an end with the December release of Rise of Skywalker.
