Sleater-Kinney Hire New Touring Drummer Angie Boylan

Music, News

Sleater-Kinney have hired a new drummer to fill the vacancy left by Janet Weiss after she announced her departure in early July, the band revealed in an Instagram post. Angie Boylan—a member of Aye Nako and Freezing Cold—joined the band for the first show on their 2019 tour behind the new St. Vincent-produced album The Center Won’t Hold.

Janet Weiss explained that she decided to leave the band due to their “new direction.” “We thank her for joining us on this journey many years ago; we will always cherish our friendship and our time together,” the band wrote at the time. Carrie Brownstein later wrote a longer response to Weiss’ departure on Instagram. “She’s left us with a job to do, a job we also expected and wanted her to be a part of,” Brownstein wrote. “Her playing on this record is amazing and she’s raved about this album to us and to Annie. But we have to keep looking to the future.”
